SPRING-NOT-SPRING IS HERE

Published on 24 May 2024 at 12:31

Spring-not-Spring is here; rainy sunny and everything in-between! I’m up to my knees in planning and recipe testing for an annual yoga event that I love to do each year; back into it now after a couple of weeks of complete overwhelm and feeling very blue ;(

Still I’m glad to be here, big birthday coming up and much food to be eaten, places to explore and markets to be re-discovered.

Woop!

I spent a few days over the past weeks picking local wild garlic and this year aside from the obligatory pesto, have tried pickling the buds in apple cider vinegar and pink peppercorns and also with soy, shitakes and dried chillies slightly adapted from the wonderful Joe Bartlett, whose instagram is completely inspiring; definitely look him up if this kind of thing is your jam!

Also playing with new ideas for kimchi; the most recent being wild garlic and rhubarb from the garden which went into some delicious gram flour fritters.

Saw a post from someone who eats kimchi and peanut butter on toast! – now there’s an idea!

Made an olive focaccia last week, very delicious but a little flatter than usual, then I realized my yeast was a week out of date.....

First foray into gluten free sourdough went well;  although the starter took longer than mentioned to bubble due to our weird weather patterns. Made it with organic buckwheat and lots of seeds and it sliced really well. More experiments to follow.

That’s all for this month; until next time.

Go gently, eat well and look after each other

Xx
